PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Kate Hamill and directed by Tatyana Marie-Carlo. Adapted from the novel by Jane Austen.
Renata played the role of ‘Lizzy’ in the Hartford Stage production of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.
The classic love story — with a contemporary twist. It’s about time for the Bennet sisters to get married, only the independent and outspoken Elizabeth isn’t keen on the idea. Meanwhile, the proud and mysterious Mr. Darcy keeps appearing in the Bennet social sphere, sparking conflict and marital questions. Might a change of heart be in the cards for Elizabeth? In this playful adaptation, Kate Hamill bends tradition and social conventions. It is a truth universally acknowledged that this Pride and Prejudice is not to be missed.

THE DEMOCRACY PROJECT
THE DEMOCRACY PROJECT was written by WGA Award winner Tanya Barfield (Hulu’s “Mrs. America”); Pulitzer Prize finalist Lisa D’Amour (Detroit); MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Larissa FastHorse (The Thanksgiving Play); Obie Award winner Melissa James Gibson (“House of Cards”); and Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Bruce Norris (Clybourne Park).
Directed by Tamilla Woodard and Tai Thompson.
Music by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop).
Renata joined the cast of THE DEMOCRACY PROJECT at the FEDERAL HALL.
THE DEMOCRACY PROJECT followed a modern-day narrator (Alicia) through the history of Federal Hall on Wall Street, probing the choices of our Founders and how their actions still reverberate through America, many years after “We the People.”
All performances were free and open to the public.

FLYIN’ WEST
FLYIN’ WEST by Pearl Cleage and directed by Chuck Smith.
Renata played the role of ‘Sophie’ in the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe production of FLYIN’ WEST.
Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe presents Flyin’ West which tells the story o, a group of African American women who leave the oppressive South and settle in the all-Black town of Nicodemus, Kansas in the 1890s. Their determination to survive in a harsh region is tested as they build new lives. With flashes of humor amid serious themes, Flyin’ West shed new light on a seldom-told chapter of American history.

Renata played the role of ‘Jules’ in the EASTCOAST PREMIERE of APOLOGIES TO LORRAINE HANSBERRY (YOU TOO, AUGUST WILSON).
In this “historically inaccurate” world – imagine the US had a second Civil War that segregated the country. A community of an all-Black state raises concerns after a resident’s partner, who is Afro-Latinx, moves to town. This dynamic, funny, and heart-wrenching winner of the 2021 Yale Drama Series Prize was previously seen at Orlando Shakes as a part of PlayFest 2020. Now see this ground-breaking, fully produced production!

Renata played the role of ‘Patricia’ in the WORLD PREMIERE of DREAM HOU$E.
When Reality hits home, two Latinx sisters guest star on an HGTV-style reality show to sell their family home in the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of Hilo Villa. As they perform for the camera, one sister grapples with turmoil in the family’s ancestral past while the other learns how much she’s willing to sacrifice for the family’s future. What is the cultural cost of progress in America? And is cashing in always selling out?
This show was co-produced by the Alliance Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre, and Baltimore Center Stage.

Renata played the role of ‘Erica’ in the WORLD PREMIERE of 7 DEADLY SINS.
Miami New Drama’s 7 DEADLY SINS was the largest live professional theater production during the COVID-19 shutdown, transforming 6 vacant storefronts and the Colony Theatre loading dock into 7 unique theater spaces, and invigorating an entire block of Miami Beach’s historic Lincoln Road, one of the world’s most renowned and trafficked pedestrian thoroughfares. The socially distanced, world-premiere production employed over 100 theater workers – 7 BIPOC playwrights, over 80 creatives, technicians, and production staff, and 25 Actors. Amidst a global pandemic, 7 DEADLY SINS created new work that speaks to the moment, brought the community together, provided a lifeline to theater professionals, and kept LIVE theater ALIVE through brave creativity and groundbreaking innovation.
Its sold-out run was extended twice by popular demand, receiving national attention from The New York Times, American Theater Magazine, and was the winner of the 2021 Drama League Award for Outstanding Interactive or Socially-Distanced Theater.

Renata played ‘NYA’ in the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe production of Dominique Morisseau’s PIPELINE.
As the need for social distancing continued during the COVID-19 pandemic, WBTT pivoted from its planned live staging of Dominique Morisseau's Pipeline to a video production recorded on our mainstage. The play is the compelling story of a mother's fight to give her son a future without turning her back on their community. The video was shown outdoors on a large screen on the WBTT campus for one week, from April 24 through April 30, 2021, then streamed on-demand May 1st-23rd 2021.

FOR COLORED GIRLS… by Ntozake Shange and directed by Leah C. Gardiner
Renata joined the cast of FOR COLORED GIRLS… at The PUBLIC.
A groundbreaking work in modern American theater, FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE/WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF, returns to The Public for the first time since it premiered in 1976 before its breakthrough run on Broadway. Renata joins the cast as one of the understudies for the production.
Filled with passion, humor, and raw honesty, legendary playwright/poet Ntozake Shange’s form-changing choreopoem tells the stories of seven women of color using poetry, song, and movement. With unflinching honesty and emotion, each woman voices her survival story of having to exist in a world shaped by sexism and racism.
Obie Award winner Leah C. Gardiner directs this seminal work and the choreography is by the multi-talented Camille A. Brown. FOR COLORED GIRLS… speaks to our world today about women’s struggles, strength, desires, resilience, and the sanctified magic of love and possibility.
